Odd times at the Banquet

So, at work this week we had our annual banquets.  These banquets are a huge deal because I work for a non-profit organization and this is how we get the money to cover the end of the year expenses in our budgets and hopefully get a nice nest egg to begin the next year on.  Tonight we had our second and smaller of the two banquets.  It was catered.  We were responsible for pouring the tea and lemonade into glasses for the guests to get as they went through the food line.  We expected 300 people to be at the one tonight, and 300 people showed up.  I would like to tell you that everything ran smoothly and went off with out a hitch but it didn't.

The problems began when tables 1-10 (out of the 30 tables we had tonight) were told to go and get in the buffet line to eat.  About half way through we realized that we were not going to have enough lemonade to make it through the entire crowd.  We very promptly realized that we were also not going to have enough tea to cover the lemonade shortage.  At that point we found out that we already had people out getting some (22) two liters for the guests.  It was a little tense in the drink area, but not horrible.

That is until we found out that the caterer did not bring enough food.  The food ran out around 150 people maybe.  Somehow there was enough eventually enough to go around, but it was rough getting there.  I have never experienced something so basic go bad so quickly.  It was tense.

But then God provided.  The choir started singing and people cheered.  The guest speaker got up and spoke about what Jesus had done in her life with such passion and love that it opened eyes and hearts to the need for more addiction recovery programs, especially in this part of the country.  I can not begin to explain to you how the entire mood of the evening shifted because we stayed focused on God and the fact that he is provider and will not fail us in any circumstance.  Tonight was nothing as big as the 5 loaves and 2 fishes but I will always remember it as a night when God proved Himself to be more then enough to satisfy an irate and hungry crowd of 300.
